The Unknowns, still smarting from last week's unfortunate drubbing, buried five without reply past their opponents this morning at Tampines.
The mercurial strike partnership of Zhen Rong and Jian Hua shared the spoils. Jian Hua, sporting his brand new Adidas Predator boots, grabbed a brace. Zhen Rong, after a long and tiring shift of night duty, took out his frustration on the opponents by scoring a stunning hat -trick.
Unknowns signalled their intent to go for the jugular right from kick-off, and there was no surprise when they eventually took the lead in the 22nd minute after Jianhua hustled the defence by chasing down a loose ball and presenting himself with a one-on-one against the opposition goalie. He delightfully clipped the ball over the keeper to register his first goal of the season.
The second goal was once again a product of some hassling and harrassment on Jianhua's part. The hardworking forward was rewarded when he was chased down a gigantic "Lionel Lewis" goalkick by Ying Jie. He made no mistake with another cool finish.
Zhen Rong made it 3-0 when he latched on to a delightful through ball from Apple and fired home. The top scorer of 2008 soon made it 4-0 when he out-jumped the entire defence to nod home Gabriel's inch-perfect corner kick.
In between, there were several other occasions in which the Unknowns could easily have added to their lead. Sherman came very close with a powerful effort, only to be denied by the goalie, and Zhenrong had a top-drawer volley with his left boot that came thundering off the crossbar.
In truth, with due respect to the opponents, the 4-0 scoreline at halftime was flattering for them.
With the conclusion foregone, Unknowns took their feet off the pedal in the second half. The rout was completed when Zhenrong burst through to latch on from another through ball from Apple, and rounded the keeper for an emphatic finish.
